Hike – Forest of Nisene Marks State Park (Aptos Creek), Aptos
Meet at one of two places:
- At the carpool location in Los Gatos* at 9:20 am. Northside Parking Lot on CA-9 between University and Santa Cruz Avenues. Sign reads: “Free Unlimited Parking – Northside Lot.” Take CA-17 south toward Los Gatos. Exit at CA-9 Los Gatos/Saratoga and continue west on CA-9 for 0.3 mile to the parking lot on your right, just before Santa Cruz Avenue.
Or…
- If you drive directly to Nisene Marks State Park, take CA-17 south from San Jose toward Santa Cruz. Take CA-1 South 7.5 miles to exit 435 (State Park Drive) in Aptos (careful, do NOT exit at Park Avenue). Turn left on State Park Drive to Soquel Drive. Turn right onto Soquel Drive. Go 1 mile to Aptos Creek Road. Turn left on Aptos Creek Road into the park. Pay entrance fee at kiosk. The address of the entrance station is 664-784 Aptos Creek Fire Rd, Aptos, CA 95003. Continue about 2 miles to the Porter Family Picnic Area where you will park and meet the group.
Parking is $9 per car for seniors. Or, get a Limited Golden Bear Pass.
The hike begins at the Porter Family Picnic Area in the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park at 10 am.
The Forest of Nisene Marks is a refreshing retreat from the busy towns and beaches along Hwy 1 near Santa Cruz. Its dense second-and third-growth redwood forest rises from near sea level to steep coastal mountains. The shaded trail follows beautiful Aptos Creek.
