Steve Naberhuis  – Jan, 22, 1947 – May 6, 2025

Steve Naberhuis age 78  passed away on May 6,  Steve worked for HP Labs in Palo Alto for 31 years before retiring in 2006. Steve worked on my HP Lab projects and visited HP Corvallis often.  Upon his retirement he and his wife Chris decided Corvallis is where they wanted to retire,  After he moved to Corvallis he became a member of the HPREC’ retiree and previous employee club.  After a couple years in the club he was voted in as the treasurer, a position he held proudly for many years until his health declined and he could no longer hold the position.  During Steve’s years in Corvallis he was also a member of the Corvallis Master Gardner’s Club.

Sheri Swaney – Jan. 19, 1957 – May 7, 2025

Sheri  Swaney age 68, passed away the morning of May 7th after entering Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis of a collapse lung. Sheri worked many years at the HP Corvallis site before retiring due to poor health. Sheri was our HP site contact for many years and was our administrative link for site activities/ and scheduled rooms for board meetings, group meeting.  Often times she would go in on Saturdays to print the newsletter and special flyers we needed.  Whatever needed done she was always there to help us. Sheri supported our club for many years until her health decided it was tine to retire.er health decided it was tine to retire. Sheri was our Sunshine Coordinator for the club and sent get well and sympathy cards to our members and other HP employees if we heard of their sickness or passing.

Rita Pinard – August 7, 1940 – May 9, 2025

Rita Pinard, 84, passed away peacefully on May 9th, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Rita was the youngest of eight children born to John and LaVeta Sutton. She lived a simple childhood on her family’s small farm in Roseburg, Oregon, and graduated from Roseburg High School in 1958. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Russ Pinard. Together, they built a happy home in the Pacific Northwest, raising their family and sharing 49 wonderful years of marriage.

Rita had a sharp mind, a tireless spirit, and was a natural organizer and leader. She worked for many years at Hewlett-Packard, where her talents soon led her to plan major events, including the legendary HP picnic. Her dedication to community continued in retirement, and Rita volunteered much of her time and energy to causes and organizations dear to her, such as the HP Retired Employees Club, Benton County United Way, and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. Her extraordinary accomplishments in volunteer service earned her numerous awards and recognition from governors and U.S. presidents.

Rita was a member of the HPREC Retirees and past employee club in Corvallis.  She joined in 2000 when she retired and held numerous positions over the years.  She was a board member and held many positions including president several times and most recently took over as our treasurer when Steve’s health failed him.  She was in the process of transferring our Treasurer position to our newest board member, Martha Taylor. 

Rita had a genuine gift for bringing people together. She loved hosting gatherings, playing games, and creating joyful memories with friends and family. She and Russ treasured their travels across the country in their RV—exploring national parks, hosting at state campgrounds, experiencing regional festivities, and even leading RV caravans along the historic Oregon Trail. Her warmth, wit, and generosity touched all who knew her.

Rita is survived by her children Kari, Penny (Chris), and Dan (Debi); her grandchildren Sean, Cody, Nichelle, Kayli, AJ, Luke, Owen, Jack, Alex (Ichigo), Megan (Zach), and Jenny; her great-grandchildren Kade and Alayna; and her beloved dog, Mocha. She was preceded in death by her husband Russ and son Rex (Kathy).

Terry Long – husband of Kathleen Long

Passed away in February, his Celebration of Life was held on February 22nd, and internment was Feb. 28, 2025, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

Donald Robert Tonkin

August 7, 1940 – February 18, 2025
Don died peacefully after a long, happy and full life.  He was a funny, charming, beautiful human, and everyone who knew him loved him. He is survived by Nan his wife of 62 years, his daughters, Sara, Becky and Wanda and his grandson Raymond. Obituary in GazetteTimes.com search by name.

Linda Jean Humphrey – wife of Chuck Humphrey

November 6, 1940 – January 1, 2025
Passed away at Corner Stone Senior Living in Boise, Idaho. She was married to Charles (Chuck) Humphrey, March 10, 1963. Her love of painting guided her life and she was active in the artistic community she helped foster wherever she was. Chuck a long time HP Corvallis employee preceded her in death in 2022.

Patricia Anne Rusk

Passed away peacefully at the Samaritan Albany Hospice House on October 23, 2024 at the age of 82. She lost her valiant fight from various ailments the most serious of which was non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis.. 

On May 2, 1975, she married Mick Rusk and they spent 49 1/2 wonderful years together. She leaves behind her husband, Mick of Millersburg, son Brad Cafarelli and grandson Will Cafarelli of Los Angeles, CA., and daughter Janay Cafarelli of Albany. 

Pat had a variety of occupations in the world of work beginning as an elementary school teacher aide. Her personality and organizational skills opened the doors to become an office manager in a dental partnership, followed by becoming an office manager in a legal firm. Her work experience culminated as a documentation manager at Hewlett-Packard where she retired after 17 years.

The loving care Pat received at Albany Hospice House was absolutely incredible. Should you want to do anything in her memory a donation to Albany General Hospital Foundation, Attn: Jennifer Stanaway, 1046 Sixth Ave. SW, Albany, OR 97321 would be greatly appreciated.

Linda M. Burchard

Passed away suddenly on Thursday; November 30, 2023.  She would have been 81 on December 24, 2023..  She had heart issues over the past several years but died of natural causes.  She worked for HP for 27 years and held several supervisor positions in R&D Photo and Manufacturing at the Corvallis campus. Per her request there was no service.


Eric Lee Skinner

Passed away on December, 26, 2023. He lived in Hanford, CA and former longtime resident of Albany and Corvallis, Or. In June of 1976 Eric started his career for Hewlett-Packard and retired after 27 years. (For Eric’s complete obituary visit: Wallin.funeralhomes.com   Sanger, Ca. location)

Roger F. Evans

John Ernest Liljeberg

John Ernest Liljeberg, age 76, passed away on January 28 after a long illness. John grew up in Coos Bay and still has lifelong friends there. He moved to Corvallis and attended Oregon State University where he received his mechanical engineering degree. He also proudly served in the US Marine Corps Reserve. John spent most of his professional career designing assembly lines and conveyor systems. John married his wife of 36 years, Susie, in 1987. No services are planned at this time.
