Displaying PDFs

PDF files are displayed using PDF.js viewer plugin.  There are many ways to display PDFs but PDF.js seems to be the best.

Best way to display a PDF is to duplicate an existing PDF page and modify.  A good candidate to display is the Bylaws page.

Newsletters are PDFs which are displayed using the browsers default pdf viewer.

Legacy Files used in WordPress

Various files from the Legacy website are being reused in the WordPress site.

Specifically, they are PDFs located the

hpretirees.org/hprec  and
hpretirees.org/hprec/news

directories.  The following directories were created to hold those reused sites.

hpretirees.org/myhprec/wp-content/hprec and
hpretirees.org/myhprec/wp-content/hprec/news

Going forward, they can be used instead of the uploads directory.

Admin Bar Management

The admin bar is displayed by default. Each user can turn off the admin bar by unchecking the Tool Bar check box in the profile page, called User Info Update. The admin bar could be turned off globally, i.e. for everyone, using PIE Register, a very important plug-in. This can be selected in Settings –> Overrides section. Selecting Do not show admin bar will turn off admin bar for everyone except admins.

On the right panel, there is a Site Admin selection. When the admin bar has been turned off, either globally by the admin, or by an individual user, clicking this will turn on admin bar.

Admin access by external 3rd parties – WP phpMyAdmin

Sometimes it is necessary for a third party to access WordPress to fix or investigate something.  They will need admin access to WP production or test database.

That is ok, but sometimes they will need access to the SQL database itself.  But that normally requires phpMyAdmin, requires access to the account itself.  Access to the account allows third party access to everything, not just the WP database.

The plugin, WP-phpMyAdmin, is a wrapper around phpMyAdmin which allows a third party with admin access to a WP instance to access the SQL database.

WP phpMyAdmin is a standard plugin included with WordPress.
