Walk – Cornelis Bol Park Palo Alto

Meet at Cornelis Bol Park.  It is located at 3590 Laguna Ave., Palo Alto.

From I-280 (or Foothill Expressway), take the Page Mill Road exit toward Palo Alto and turn right onto El Camino Real/CA-82.
From I-101 take the Oregon Expressway exit toward Palo Alto and turn left onto El Camino Real/CA-82.
Then turn right onto Matadero Avenue, and then left onto Laguna Avenue.  The park will be on your right.

The walk will start by the play structure.

Cornelis Bol Park has a large open grassy area, Matadero Creek, paved walking/biking/running trails, chickens, and three donkeys. Redwoods and oaks provide perimeter shade.  The bike path will allow us to walk as far as the group prefers.  Since our last walk there, a new, 14-year old donkey named “April” has been added.

Cornelis Bol was a Dutch physicist, a Stanford professor and inventor of the high-intensity mercury vapor lamp.  In the 1930s, he created a donkey farm to keep his six boys occupied.  The neighborhood collaborated with the Bol family to turn the donkey pasture into a park for families to enjoy, ensuring that generations of families would have the pleasure of visiting the donkeys. Two donkeys, named “Perry” and “Buddy”, are currently there with “April.”
