San Francisco Stairway Hike of Dolores Heights
Meet at one of two places:
- Carpool* from our regular location at 1501 Page Mill Rd, Palo Alto at 9:20 am. This is the current headquarters of HP Inc. To get there: Take I-280 to Page Mill Road (PMR). Proceed 2.1 miles east on PMR across Junipero Serra Boulevard/Foothill Expressway to Peter Coutts. At the intersection, turn right into the entrance and through the gate. Turn right into the second entrance to parking and park. This is HP parking; do not park in the Tesla parking area. Please note: There are no restroom facilities so please plan accordingly.
- Form your own carpool and meet at the Randall Museum located at 199 Museum Way in San Francisco at 10 am.
Free parking is rare in this part of the city, so please carpool. Note there are no restrooms during the walk. Last taken in 2018, this San Francisco stairway hike also includes all of Adah Bakalinsky’s walk number 21 (Dolores Heights – A Mondrian Walk) from her book Stairway Walks in San Francisco. The walk also includes walking through the heart of the Castro district twice and a final climb up the beautiful Vulcan Stairway. The highlight of the walk is the “painted lady”-like houses from the latter part of the 1800s.
