Palo Alto’s Foothills Park Hike

Meet at the usual carpool location. *  Carpools will leave HPQ Headquarters at 9:40 am.

If you drive there directly, go to 11799 Page Mill Rd., Palo Alto, CA 94022.  After paying the $6 fee, enter Palo Alto’s Foothills Park.  Bear left at the “Y” intersection and go down past Boronda Lake to the bottom of the hill.  Make a left into the parking area and meet by the bathrooms by Orchard Glen.

The hike begins at Palo Alto’s Foothills Park at 10 am.

The 1,400-acre Palo Alto’s Foothills Park is a nature lover’s paradise. Miles of trails provide access through rugged chaparral, woodlands, fields, streams, a lake, and provide spectacular views of the bay. Foothills Park is bounded by Portola Valley, Los Altos Hills, the Pearson-Arastradero Preserve and Los Trancos Open Space.

The hike will have two loops.  Before lunch, we will hike a bit more than 3 miles.  We will have lunch at the picnic tables near where we parked.  After lunch we will hike a loop in a different direction; it will be a bit less than 3 miles.  As with most places we hike, there is poison oak.  It should not be a problem as long as you stay toward the middle of the hiking trails.  Some of the hike will be through nicely shaded areas, but some will be in the sunshine, so be sure to put on sunscreen.
