Meet at the HPQ carpool location* or if you drive there directly, from Saratoga take Hwy 9 toward Skyline. After 2.5 miles turn left onto Sanborn Road for 1.1 miles to the park entrance. After passing the toll booth, take the first right turn for the Peterson parking lot.
Carpool Information:
9:15 am at the HP parking lot, or
9:45 at the alternate carpool location front of CVS Pharmacy 12940 Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd in the Argonaut Shopping Center in Saratoga.
Sanborn County Park has predominantly north-facing slopes with mixed evergreen forests of Oak, Madrone, Douglas fir and Redwoods. The San Andreas Fault cuts diagonally through the park. It is used to be the home of the Shakespearean Company of Silicon Valley, which was holding outdoor Shakespeare performances in the park.
We will hike the steep San Andreas and Madrone trails for 2.3 miles, a 1,300-foot climb. After a lunch stop it’s all downhill along the Sanborn and Peterson trails back to the parking lot. Bring a lunch and water.
Long pants are recommended as a guard against poison oak vines along the sides of some of the trails.
