As part of our new COVID-19 protocols, walkers must sign up on our NEW myHPREC website in advance and supply their emergency contact information electronically. This is necessary to avoid close contact on the day of the walk and to make sure the maximum of number of walkers for each session is 30 (including the walk leader).
Meet at one of two places:
- Carpool* from our regular location at 1501 Page Mill Rd, Palo Alto at 9:15 am
- At Sam McDonald County Park, 13435 Pescadero Creek Rd, Loma Mar, CA 94021 at 10 am
Driving directions: Exit Hwy 280 at Sand Hill Road going west to Portola Road. At the junction with La Honda Road (Hwy 84), make a sharp left and follow La Honda Road. Cross Hwy 35; go straight and follow La Honda Road for 6.5 miles. At the junction with Pescadero Road, turn left. Drive about 1 mile on Pescadero Road. At the junction with Alpine Road, bear right and continue about 0.5 miles on Pescadero Road to the park entrance on the right Our hike begins at the parking area on your left.
This is a lovely loop hike of 4.5 miles through the redwoods with 900 feet of elevation gain. We start on the Heritage Grove and Big Tree trails, then follow the Towne Fire Road to the Hikers Hut for lunch. After lunch, we follow the Heritage Grove Trail back to the parking lot.
The hike begins at Sam McDonald County Park at 10 am.
