Fitzgerald Marine Preserve to Pillar Point & Back Hike

Only fully COVID-19 vaccinated members and guests may attend HPREC in-person events including hikes.  As part of HPREC’s new COVID-19 protocols, hikers must sign up on our NEW myHPREC website in advance and supply their emergency contact information electronically.  This is necessary to avoid close contact on the day of the hike and to make sure the maximum of number of hikers for each session is 20 (including the hike leader).

  • The NEW carpool location is at 1501 Page Mill Road, Palo Alto 94306. This is the current headquarters of HP Inc.  To get there take I-280 to Page Mill Road (PMR).  Proceed 2.1 miles east on PMR across Junipero Serra Blvd/Foothill Expressway to Peter Coutts.  At the intersection turn right into the entrance and through the gate.  Proceed straight ahead to the 2nd stop sign and turn right to meet the group.  Please note:  There are no restroom facilities so please make plans accordingly.

To go directly to the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve, take I-280 northbound; use the 2nd from the right lane to take exit 33 for State Route 92 West toward Half Moon Bay. When CA 92 ends, turn right onto CA-1 N/Cabrillo Highway N, then drive 6.2 miles and turn left onto California Avenue. When California Avenue ends, go right on Lake Street and into the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve parking area. The people from the carpool should arrive around 10:50 am.

Be sure to indicate if you are or are not going to carpool from Palo Alto when you register.

The Hike:
This hike is from the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve, Moss Beach, to the Pillar Point Harbor jetty and back. The hike will be lovely, cool, fun, and pleasant. The hike bluff-top route will take us past the Moss Beach Distillery to the area where the Mavericks surf contest used to be held. The bluff is climbed twice. The rest of the hike is fairly level. None of the hike is on sand, but we expect to see resting Harbor Seals on the beaches.

If you want to cancel your reservation/sign up:
Call or send an email message to the event leader and inform the leader of your cancellation.
