Hike – Big Basin Redwoods State Park, near Boulder Creek
Meet at one of two places:
- Carpool from Los Gatos at 9:15 am, Northside Parking Lot on CA-9 between University and Santa Cruz Avenues. Sign reads: “Free Unlimited Parking – Northside Lot.” Take CA-17 south toward Los Gatos. Exit at CA-9 Los Gatos/Saratoga and continue west on CA-9 for 0.3 mile to the parking lot on your right, just before Santa Cruz Avenue.
- At Big Basin Redwoods State Park at 10 am. If you drive directly, take CA-17 south from San Jose toward Santa Cruz. Exit CA-17 (exit 3) at Mt. Hermon Road to Scotts Valley. Turn right onto Mt. Hermon Road. After 3.5 miles, turn right onto Graham Hill Road. After 0.3 miles, turn right onto CA-9. Follow CA-9 for 6.8 miles to Boulder Creek. In the middle of Boulder Creek, turn left onto CA-236, which leads straight into Big Basin Redwoods State Park in 9.3 miles.
Note 3: There is a vehicle day-use fee. Parking reservations are highly recommended due to limited space and facilities. Autos are $6 plus a $2 reservation fee, or $10 per vehicle without a reservation. Reserve a parking space.
We will take the Dool Trail climbing to the Middle Ridge Road, then the Meteor Trail. Middle Ridge is the typical ridge road: ups and downs, some of them quite steep but short. Meteor Trail is all downhill.
Lunch break will be at the top of Meteor Trail.
