Sawyer Camp – South End

As part of our new COVID-19 protocols, hikers must sign up on our NEW myHPREC website in advance and supply their emergency contact information electronically.  This is necessary to avoid close contact on the day of the hike and to make sure the maximum of number of hikers for each session is 30 (including the hike leader).

Meet at the HPQ carpool site* at 9:30 am.

If going directly to the hike site:

  • Take I-280 north.
  • Exit 280 at Bunker Hill Drive (exit 34) and, if you had been heading north on 280, go left over the highway.
  • Turn right onto Skyline Boulevard.
  • The trailhead is about 3/4 mile on the left (just past Crystal Springs Road and the dam).

We will hike the south end of the Sawyer Camp Trail along Crystal Springs Reservoir.  This hike features shimmering water, views of mountains, waterfowl, deer, and dusky-footed woodrat nests.  We will have our lunch at the Jebson Laurel.  The entire route is paved, so recent rains are not a factor.
